This volume contains the papers presented at the International Workshop “Information Fusion and Geographic Information Systems” (IF&GIS’09) held in St. Petersburg, Russia in May 2009. The workshop was organized by the St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPIIRAS). The workshop continues a series organised biannually, and attracts academics and industrials from a wide range of disciplines including computer science, geography, statistics, mathematics, hydrography, geomorphology, and environmental sciences. The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for innovative research oriented towards Geographic Information Science and tech- logies and Corporate Information Systems whose close association highlight novel theoretical and practical challenges. The papers selected by the International Program Committee cover a wide range of innovative areas including ontological and semantic approaches for the representation of geographical data, geographical data monitoring, situation management and forecast, to emerging applications oriented to the maritime environment, disaster management and security threats. While traditional topics of GIS conferences are well represented and still being advanced, several new domains appear and stress the need for the development of versatile monitoring systems and decision making systems. While GIS already have a de facto standard for geographical monitoring and analysis, the papers accepted in this volume also illustrate several novel directions of application whose objective is more closely oriented to process modeling and decision making, and where the nature of the objects represented is revisited using ontological and semantic approaches.

Bestechend klare Abbildungen, Schemata und Tabellen erleichtern sowohl dem Anfänger als auch dem Fortgeschrittenen die Arbeit mit dieser bewährten EKG-Information.

Though quantum theory is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, quan tum information processing is still a remarkably young research field. The questions driving this research field reflect a profound change in the gen eral attitude towards the fundamental aspects of quantum theory. So far, research on the foundations of quantum theory has been concerned mainly with the theoretical exploration of those particular features which distin guish quantum theory from classical physics. The main intention of quantum information p~ocessing is to exploit these specific features for technological purposes. As early as 1935, Erwin SchrSdinger had already noted that one of these characteristic features of quantum theory is the phenomenon of entan glement. Many years passed from this early insight until John Bell realized the quantitative consequences of the corresponding quantum correlations in his famous work from 1964. These theoretical predictions inspired numerous experiments, which all support the peculiar features predicted for quantum correlations. From these purely theoretical insights, it again required a long period of development to arrive at those potentially useful applications which are now of central interest for the processing of quantum information. The following contributions provide an introductory overview of basic problems, methods and topical results in this research field. The idea of pro ducing this volume was born at a symposium on this subject which was held at the 1999 annual spring meeting of the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaff in Heidelberg.

This volume contains the proceedings of the 8th International Information - curity Conference (ISC 2005), which took place in Singapore, from 20th to 23rd September 2005. ISC 2005 brought together individuals from academia and - dustry involvedin manyresearchdisciplines of information security to foster the exchange of ideas. During recent years this conference has tried to place special emphasis on the practical aspects of information security, and since it passed from being an international workshop to being an international conference in 2001, it has become one of the most relevant forums at which researchers meet and discuss emerging security challenges and solutions. Advised by the ISC Steering Committee, and in order to provide students with more opportunities for publication, ISC 2005 accepted extra student papers - sides the regular papers. The initiative was very well accepted by the young sector of the scienti?c community, and we hope that the success of this idea will remainfornextISCevents. AnotherimportantfactorforthesuccessofISC2005 was that selected papers in the proceedings will be invited for submission to a special issue of the InternationalJournalof InformationSecurity. The result was an incredible response to the call for papers; we received 271 submissions, the highest since ISC events started. It goes without saying that the paper selection process was more competitive and di?cult than ever before — only 33 regular papers were accepted, plus 5 student papers for a special student session.
